During the prohibition, as the sale, production, and transportation of alcohol became a criminal activity, the speakeasy became a byword for the secrecy required to drink hard liqor. The term speak easy was born from a patron's manner of ordering alcohol without raising suspicion - a bartender would ask a patron to be quiet and "speak easy". Normally covered by a grill, a speakeasy door contains a small opening which people had to softly whisper their names through prior to entry.
Currently in stock, these quality doors are available for purchase and immediate delivery. They are available in several colors of stain then distressed with black cracks, the door is finally sealed with three coats of polyurethane sealer. This ensures an abrasion-resistant, hard-wearing, and durable finish that protects your door from the sun, snow, wind and rain as well as any fungus or mildew problems.
The door (as shown in the picture to the left) also comes complete with a number of accessories such as a hand forged, wrought iron speakeasy grill that only opens inwardly, and clavos nails to complete the period look. Other speak easy doors offer different accessories and alternative finishes.
If you have an existing standard 6’8” x 36” x 1 3/4” door, a speak easy door would be a lovely entrance to your home. Click here to order one of our in stock speakeasy wooden doors or contact us about a custom version. You can also call toll-free on 1.888.748.6838 to speak to somebody in person. |
